We are pleased to present you with this first edition of our Newsletter InfoCRIAQ.
You will receive this newsletter by e-mail, four to five times a year, it aims at keeping the CRIAQ community in touch.

InfoCRIAQ is a good way to foster the exchange of news and ideas.  This is why we encourage you to give us your suggestions and comments and to pass along any news that you feel could be of interest to our readers.

1. The CRIAQ team

With the arrival in April of Carlos Trindade (15 years of experience at Bombardier Aerospace), the CRIAQ team is now composed of four full time and one part time members. The team is responsible for administering and managing the numerous CRIAQ projects, as well as working at the international level and expanding CRIAQ on the national scene(CRIAC).

2. CRIAQ Research Activities Summary

Over the past few months, five first-round projects were completed with success and within schedule.  Eighteen projects are presently active, six are in the evaluation stage and twenty more are in preparation.

During the 5th anniversary celebration, a complete report of the projects will be submitted. Meanwhile, information about each project can be found on our website for the first round, second round, and third round.


3. International – India mission

In collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade (MDEIE) a delegation of ten CRIAQ representatives participated from November 19th to 26th in a mission to India led by Minister Raymond Bachand.

CRIAQ’s objective was to develop relationships with Indian researchers in areas of common interest. The group’s industry and academic representatives visited several universities and research centres, and was impressed with the high quality of research and the expertise found there. Opportunities for possible industry led cooperation were discussed.

Follow-up of the mission is assured by CRIAQ and the MDEIE with the aim of launching a number of collaborative projects and establishing good links with the Indian scientific community.

4. International – Missions to France

With the help of a special fund from the MDEIE, CRIAQ undertook a mission to Toulouse and Bordeaux from the November 25 to the December 2, 2006. Thirteen CRIAQ researchers from École Polytechnique, ÉTS, Université Laval, Université de Sherbrooke and Concordia University participated in this mission. They visited four businesses and had meetings with representatives from twenty-one laboratories from the Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées regions. These two regions participate in the Aerospace Valley cluster. (click here for more details).

A one-day seminar was held in each of the two cities giving researchers ample opportunity for getting acquainted and exchanging information. This mission has laid the ground for the Technological Meetings that are scheduled to be held from November 12 to 16, 2007, in France.  A Bordeaux symposium is also being planned for July 2008.

As part of the CRIAQ exchanges with France, ten active CRIAQ researchers also participated in the High-performance Manufacturing Forum that took place from June 26 to 30, 2006, in Toulouse (Click here for more details).

Finally, CRIAQ provided financial assistance to a team from l’Université de Sherbrooke for their participation in the SAPHIR Project of the 6th European Framework. This project is now underway and a special seminar involving the project partners will be hostied in Sherbrooke on October 1 and 2, 2007.


5. Paris Air Show, Le Bourget 2007

CRIAQ’s CEO, André Bazergui, attended the Paris Air Show Le Bourget in June 2007.  He met with numerous representatives of Italian, French, English and Canadian associations and industries to present CRIAQ’s philosophy, achievements and future endeavours. Regular contacts were made with  the Québec and Canada government teams. Follow-up of these meetings is under way.

6. CRIAQ 5th Anniversary

"Five Years of Innovation: Targeting the Future", is the theme of CRIAQ’s 5th anniversary to be held on August 23. The celebration will take place in the presence of The Honorable Raymond Bachand, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade.

At a time when CRIAQ is looking to the future by widening its sphere of activities at the national and international levels, we want to celebrate our first five years in support of aerospace technology with all our friends and partners.

Our Research teams’ achievements and the successes of our programs in support of researchers and students will be highlighted. Certificates of excellence will be presented to those who have contributed to the success of the Consortium.

The event is to take place on August 23, at 1:30 pm at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) – 999 University Street, in Montreal. Invitations were recently sent to you by e-mail.
