1. 4th CRIAQ Research Forum - April 17, 2008

CRIAQ is planning its 4th Research Forum where industry and researchers meet to establish a new round of aerospace research projects.

The Forum will take place in Montreal, at the Holiday Inn Select (Downtown, 99 Viger Avenue West (corner St-Urbain), Montreal, Quebec H2Z 1E9) on Thursday, April 17, 2008, following a format similar to previous years: a plenary session in the morning, where the industry will present its technology needs, followed by a number of break-out sessions and a second plenary session at the end of the day, where the results of the afternoon discussions will be presented. The final program will be posted on the website by the end of March. The themes remain the same as for the other rounds of projects.

2. New Members

At the Board of Directors' meeting of last November, two new members joined the CRIAQ. We welcome the « Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) » represented by Sinh LeQuoc , Research Director.

We also welcome into CRIAQ's ranks MDS-PRAD Technologies Corp. (specializing in coatings) represented by Simon Durham , Vice-President, R&D.

5. International - 2nd Indian Mission

Following Minister Bachand's mission to India in November 2006, CRIAQ felt the need to report back to its Indian partners who, so far, had limited knowledge of aerospace R&D.

Last January, Carlos Trindade led a mission to India to touch base with our Indian partners, establish new contacts and discuss new collaborative projects, and evaluate with funding agencies in India what are the best models for supporting collaborative projects.

Representatives from the National Aerospace Laboratories, the Indian Institute of Science (both in Bangalore), the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, Kanpur, Chenai, Kharagpur and Mumbai have been invited to attend the 4th Research Forum next April.

6. International - Student Exchange with Italy

An Italian Government program (administered by the Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali - CIRA) is bringing students to Montreal to work for companies that are interested in having them do an internship this summer. So far, about 10 students have found or are about to find internships in various organizations. This is a good result for a first year.

The students' expenses will be covered by the Italian Government. Also, expenses for a certain number of Canadian students who are interested in an internship in Italy can also be covered by the Italian government under certain conditions.

It is not too late to find a student for this exchange! If interested, please contact Carlos Trindade at number : (514) 313-7561 extension 257.

7. Memoranda of Understanding - Collaboration

IRAP (NRC-Industrial Research Assistant Program): IRAP and CRIAQ have strengthened their collaboration by a MOU facilitating the exchange of information and the flow of SME financial support by both entities.

NANOQUÉBEC: CRIAQ and NanoQuébec are working on a Memorandum of Understanding in order to consolidate some of the financial resources allowing the elaboration of joint projects involving applications of nanotechnologies in aerospace.
