Description du projet/ Project Description
This project aims at understanding the water erosion of compressor blades in the turbine engines and developing cost effective water erosion resistant coatings. This will also include studying the effect of substrate condition such as microstructure and residual stress on water erosion.

Objectifs/ Objectives
1) Understanding the water erosion problem that occurs in the compressor of the gas turbines.
2) Developing cost effective water erosion resistant coatings suitable for the conditions of liquid impingement compressor application.
3) Investigating the effects of substrate and interlayer conditions (residual stresses, microstructure and texture) on both the properties and water erosion resistance of the developed coatings.
4) Design and build the liquid impingement erosion rig test which will allow to proceed the wide range of droplet sizes and velocities in rotating and static conditions.
5) Performing water erosion studies in similar (as close as possible) conditions to what the compressor blades experience.
6) Tackling the complex issue of the combination and the interactions between fatigue and erosion in the compressor application.
