LUX

Catégorie: SMEs

Lux is an aerospace manufacturer company specialized in the launch of autonomous atmospheric satellites. The company was created with the mission to enable industries to grow in harmony with nature. We deploy a network of stratospheric balloons equipped with a camera. Our priority is to market in regions with a high density of energy companies and of the natural resources sector to give them a better visibility and understanding of their operations. Chile and Australia are our top two target markets. As a first step, we are building a real-time geospatial imaging feed for open cute mines. Thanks to the dataset we acquired, we are able to create a digital twin of their activity site. From there, we help reduce environmental and human risks and help lower operating costs. Concretely, the platforms that currently acquire images of the surface of the planet all have limitations. Drones cannot cover a large area effectively, satellite images are not accurate enough and the planes are expensive. No system on the market can acquire a large amount of images, of high resolution, at a low price. In order to succeed in gaining market share globally it is critical that we build a specialized assembly line to manufacture our product. In 36 months, we are aiming for a production rate of 10 units per quarter. The company's long-term goal is to build an airship capable of operating in the stratosphere for more than a year. In order to achieve this, we are building internal expertise and to generate revenue in order to be in a strong position before starting the technological development needed to prototype a first demonstrator.

We are building a long distance wireless charger  (laser) to supply 1kw of energy to clients. We are offering this as a service including the software for tracking and pointing. The high power laser needs a lot of R&D to build out the product, which has only been designed and built previously by government organizations, outside of small tabletop experiments. Innovations will be made in the opto-electronic efficiency, the receiving element, and in space qualifying a high powered laser.

Limosa Inc.

Catégorie: STARTUP

Limosa Inc. is a technology start-up based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Our aim is to revolutionize the transportation system to be a safe and fast travelling option. The air taxi transportation will be safer than a car, faster, eco-friendly and less time consuming than an airplane as well as more flexible than conventional transportation systems. Our group consists of experts in aircraft structural design, structural analyses, aerodynamics, designing propulsion systems, flight control and avionics to develop an eVTOL aircraft. Limosa Inc. intends to develop and acquire strategic technologies and next-generation aircraft configurations, to accelerate the deployment of economically viable eco-friendly air travel and transport, by leveraging its expertise and growing international network of industry partnerships. We are currently working on developing a 7-seater all-electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. Our vehicle is named LimoConnect. The design is being tailored to be autonomous and capable of carrying cargo.

Notos Technologies has created innovative software that uses AI in order to enable fixed wing drones to power missions through autonomously harvested wind energy. Notos software works by generating a dynamic map of lift sources in the atmosphere (thermals, ridge lift, dynamic soaring conditions), which is then used to power flight planning and decision making. This software is able to exploit wind energy in any environment and can be implemented on any fixed wing drone equipped with an autopilot system. Our target markets include ones in which clients require extended or indefinite mission times. This includes emergency medical delivery systems, livestock wellness monitoring, as well as wildfire and pipeline management. Our software is innovative due to the fact that a large factor inhibiting the widespread use of drones in the commercial sector is the short battery life of drones available on the market. Typical drone solutions are hindered by the need to accommodate the charging and maintenance of the drone itself. Notos software allows drones to be powered by energy found in the atmosphere, meaning that they can power longer missions using clean energy all through a simple software update.

SysNergie Inc.

SysNergie is a lithium-ion battery manufacturing company focused on electric mobility. Strong of many years in research in batteries and with participation in many electric vehicles projects, SysNergie offers a complete approach for your battery needs so that batteries become the least of your worries. The modular and scalable technology developed by the company adapts to the needs of the client and provides the optimal solution for the application. With state and control algorithms at the edge of technology, our batteries can operate reliably and safely during their whole lifecycle while getting the maximum performance available. Thermal management solutions are also available for high performance applications. Batteries can be assembled as a pack for bigger projects or in self-contained modules to meet the most constrained spaces requirements. SysNergie accompanies their client throughout the whole process of defining the requirements to obtain clear and concise specifications. This ensures optimisation of the design for each of the client applications. SysNergie also thinks about recyclability from the start, so that batteries can be returned at the end of their life cycle so that the batteries can be refurbished and the cells recycled properly. SysNergie also takes charge of the manufacturing process and the supply chain so that deliveries are always on time.

The societies of the 21st century have important challenges to meet to ensure a fairer and greener future. The ground transportation industry is currently changing to implement electric propulsion for all ground vehicles. However, today, 2% of all GHGs emitted in the world come from air transport. This percentage is drastically increasing due to the decarbonization of ground transportation. We therefore want to support this energy transition in air transport by developing battery systems for this market directly. Volinergy is a startup that specializes in the design, testing, manufacturing and certification of battery modules of all types for electric air vehicles. The company also supports electric air vehicle manufacturers with in-house battery system development. We will develop collaborative projects with various institutes and companies in the Quebec and international ecosystem to develop new technologies related to vehicle propulsion, particularly on batteries.

Xona Space Systems Canada Inc.

Catégorie: STARTUP

Xona Space Systems Canada, Inc, established in November of 2019 and headquartered in Vancouver, BC, is a private company specializing in satellite navigation for autonomous vehicles. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) brought navigation to the masses. Coupled with smartphones, the blue dot in the palm of our hands has forever changed the way we interact with the world. Looking forward, cyber-physical systems such as self-driving cars, aerial mobility, UAVs, and others are pushing the limits of what GNSS and other localization technologies can provide. This autonomous revolution requires a solution that supports safety-critical operation, centimeter positioning, cybersecurity, and millions of users. To meet these demands, Xona is working towards the development of a commercial Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellite navigation service. This will deliver precision in-part through faster satellite motion, higher power signals for added robustness to interference, constellation autonomous integrity monitoring for fast time to alerts, and encryption / authentication for resistance to spoofing attack. This work involves several R&D efforts in both satellite technology development and Intelligent Transport Systems. This paradigm is enabled by the 'New Space' movement, where highly capable satellites and components are now built on assembly lines and launch costs have decreased by tenfold. Such a ubiquitous positioning service enables a consistent and secure standard against which high integrity information can be validated and shared, extending the electronic horizon from sensor line of sight to an entire city. This enables the situational awareness needed for true safe operation to support autonomy at scale.
